Member Benefits

HBA of Greater New Orleans members get the very best advocacy, insurance, education, marketing, and networking opportunities available in the area. Here are just a few of the reasons you should join today:

Legislative Advocate

The Home Builders Association supports industry interests in legislation at the local, state, and Federal level. At the national level, the National Association of Home Builders is currently ranked #11 on Fortune Magazine’s “Power 25” Advocates. Every day, NAHB taps the grassroots strength of over 235,000 members to defeat excessive regulations and defend affordable housing initiatives on Capitol Hill. In Baton Rouge, the Louisiana Home Builders Association uses its “Red Shirt Days” to turn out its 6,300 members from across the state any time harmful legislation comes before the legislature. Locally, the HBA of Greater New Orleans uses its strong relationships with local decision makers – forged over more than 60 years – to lobby for pro-growth policies at the city and parish levels. Additionally, the HBA endorses sympathetic political candidates for all levels of government, and vigorously supports them during their campaigns. As your company’s legislative watchdog, the HBA saves you time and money every day!

Workman’s Comp and Insurance – For Members Only

Builders and contractors have unique needs when it comes to their workman’s comp and business insurance. The HomeBuilders Self Insurers Fund was formed as a unique program built specifically for the construction industry. Home Builders SIF offers convenient monthly payroll reporting, so you “pay as you go” without hefty minimum premiums and deposits. Their loss control services are free to members to assist you in maintaining a safe workplace, which helps to keep premiums lower. It is truly the best Workman's Comp option in the construction industry.

The LHBA General Liability Insurance Trust protects the assets of your business if it is sued for something it may or may not have done to cause injury or property damage. Unlike an insurance company, the Trust is owned and controlled by the builders, all of whom are required to be members of LHBA. Since the members of the Trust own the Trust, it can pay dividends once surplus monies are available to return. The Trust offers a value to the builder that cannot be matched by any other general liability provider – its insurance is offered to you at cost!

Marketing

As a construction-oriented business in the unique New Orleans market place, it is more important that ever to differentiate yourself from the competition, and there is no better way to do this than through the HBA of Greater New Orleans! The HBA offers two crown jewel events for builders looking to distinguish themselves in the New Orleans area: the New Orleans Home and Garden Show and the Parade of Homes , two events that put participating members in the spotlight in front of thousands of potential customers.

Associate members – vendors in the building trades – are able to market their companies directly to builders through the HBA at many events held throughout the year. Associate members can meet and market to builders at numerous annual events from the famous Crawfish Boil – which attracts more than 800 attendees every spring – to the Kick-Ass Cook-off, the HBA’s summer time cooking extravaganza. For those looking to spend some time quality face time with their builder clients, the HBA also hosts a two-day summer time fishing rodeo in the angler-friendly Gulf of Mexico and a fall golf tournament that rotated between area courses.

Associates who are looking to meet specialized builders can sponsor monthly general membership meetings and individual council meetings as well. Sponsorship opportunities allow members to develop and maintain long term, mutually beneficial business relationships with other HBA members. For associates looking to increase name recognition, the HBA's newsletter - the Home Builder - allows associates to advertise their products month after month.
